Bioremediation is the process by which living organisms(microbes) act to degrade hazardous organic contaminants or transform hazardous inorganic contaminants to environmentally safe levels in soils, subsurface materials, water, sludges, and residues. One question that we are asked over and over is, How will I know if our bioremediation project will be successful? Respirtek has developed protocol for a basic bench scale biofeasibility study, using respirometric technology combined with traditional analytical testing, that provides a very economical approach to bioremediation determination.
Our Microcosm Studies, also referred to as Biofeasibility Studies, can determine contaminant degradation rates for as many different scenarios that you would like to try, all within our respirometric laboratory. Perhaps you just want to know which enhancement product will work best for your site characteristics. Using respirometric technology, we can monitor the respiration of the microbes from the site to determine which product works best for you. Whether it is natural attenuation or full-scale bioremediation involving groundwater, soil testing or other environmental matrices, we can assist you.
