anaerobic bacteria
Anaerobic bacteria are bacteria that do not live or grow in the presence
of oxygen. Anaerobic digestion is a complex biochemical reaction carried
out in a number of steps by several types of micro-organisms that require
little or no oxygen to live. One of the advantages of using anaerobic wastewater
treatment is that it produces between five and ten times less sludge than
aerobic processes. The main drawback is that it requires a much more stringent
control process.
